How heavy are our vans?

Post by crazydiamond »

I was having a look around at 2 post car lifts, but I dont really know how heavy my vans are. tin top syncro with 5 cylinder engine, and devon Aircooled. Anyone got any ideas?  Came across single post car lifts but dont think they would be any good for a T3. Comments please

I don't think that the data means didly squat, you want to know what your van weight is with the gear in as you don't want to unload it every time you work on it.

Yes as long as its all level. If the scale is higher or lower it does not work.

Mine was 2,1 Tonne the last time I had it on a weigh bridge.

My Pritsche was only 1,9 Tonne.

Thanks guys gives me some food for thought.  The old back isnt as good as it used to be all that bending, really fancy a 2 post lift but would need to be made to use outside, i'm sure its doable. If I work on 2500kg should be ok

Make sure that the base you are bolting into is reinforced / strong enough. I have a 3.5te 2 poster, which is OK , even for a high top T25 with an interior

You do not want the lift falling over on one side, some nasty pictures on the HSE website

2.5 tonne ramp will do, but you'd be a lot safer with a 3.5 tonne one, whatever you get make sure it has good safety locks for when it is raised
you realise we'll all be coming to visit if you get your own ramp  :ok
