Slider lock action
Hi,
Does anyone happen to know how far the locking tab should slide out of the lock barrel to activate the lock? (Early handle)
With a turn of the key, the tab slides out approx 5mm, and doesn't lock or unlock the door. Time I finally sorted this out! If I pull the tab out manually, there's about another 2mm available in movement.
Thinking it's not coming out far enough maybe?

same as yours by the looks of it, maybe its the door internals that are iffy

Re: Slider lock action
Hmm case solved. I can operate the lock mech with my finger fine. There's significant wear on the locking tab and end of the key barrel now I've removed it from the handle, so I think suspicions about it not coming out far enough were correct. New lock time I suppose
Will re-key it once I've replaced it.
Are new early handles available even?

Re: Slider lock action
Interesting.. missed your post before I wrote my second. I still think mine is goosed, it looks like fair bit of metal is missing from the important part. Thanks for looking at yours
Do you know if yours can be rekeyed? Where was it purchased?
Cheers!

Re: Slider lock action
It can be re-keyed yeah, I've done all my locks recently-ish as I needed a new sliding door handle and my others were also monged.
Looking at that handle of yours, (it's probably the pictures) but it looks the same length (shorter late one) my sliding door has and not the early longer type.
It was from Ebay from what I recall, from a German supplier. If you want I have no use for this handle on my van.

Re: Slider lock action
You've got me doubting now! I'm pretty sure it's an early door at least. The van is a crossover year and has a few mixed parts on it.
My handle is approx 17.5cm long. I rekeyed it a few years ago, so got pretty familiar with all of them. Think I needed new cab door lock barrels.
If it's the right handle, I'd be keen on yours, just let me know how much etc

Re: Slider lock action
hmm! perhaps i have a late handle in an early door... given the extra length handle i could fit in there. can anyone confirm ?
if so, an early one would be better for me..

Re: Slider lock action
thanks
11 years and still suprises. the lock mech only stopped working about 2 years ago, so i guess its compatible- although, this does explain why about 10 years ago i sawed off a few mm from the hook on the end to stop it rubbing the paint

Re: Slider lock action
Slowcoach has a late handle whereas the photo of the new handle is an early. Lates are currently unavailable, earlies will fit a late door but don't feel as smooth when locking.
I'm currently looking for just a barrel (late), does anyone know if these are available to purchase?

Why would the glass be anything other than half full?

Stesaw is sending me is early handle for my early door. I'll re key the new barrel to my key- you're welcome to my old barrel (from the late handle) if that all works out? But obviously the end is a bit worn, see photos above..

Re: Slider lock action
That's kind of you, despite me looking for a new one I'd like to accept yours as I am currently without any barrel at all which renders the van less secure than usual!
Does anybody know if they are available new?

Re: Slider lock action
Schofields still appear to have genuine left side, ie rhd, late door handles complete link
and the barrel lock on it's own barrel link
it maybe that their webshop is out of date of course
google is your friend

Re: Slider lock action
In conclusion, Early handle was gifted to me from Stesaw (thankyou!), I sent him an alternator regulator in return, and gifted what2do my used late handle and barrel.
Some refreshing monetary free exchange of parts- Thanks to all involved for the help and advice and good spirited gestures we need some kindness in these miserable times.
To clarify for anyone interested, a late sliding handle works fine on an early door. A left hand drive sliding door handle works fine on a rhd sliding door (it's only the key turn direction that is reversed, and you won't notice that).
