My remanufactured AAZ is running very nicely and I've ironed out the last few running issues. Changed the tank which has resolved the conking out on left hand sweeping bends or motorway exit ramps, bad baffles or rust I guess. Another gear box and this will be a beaut to drive.
I'm am pretty much on the home stretch now and as the AAZ has resulted in a different air filter, its a LOT noisier than it was before. We had to use a K&N air filter as there wasn't space for the old large one with the config we did (which allowed no need to cut the boot lid).
So my question is, what can I do to quieten it down? Would silent coat be a good call and all I need or should I consider something else? What would you do?

No-one replying here, so I'm quoting from another thread.................
Apologies for banging on about this again!
It will be very difficult to soundproof the engine bay to achieve similar results.
The best way to have a quiet engine is not to let the noise get out in the first place. That means having a sealed and noise tight inlet air tract all the way from the air intake in the side panel, down through the snorkel pipe, through the filter and back to the engine. There is no particular problem with K&N filters except they are usually unenclosed. Fine on a petrol engine if you want a particular sound, but a dead loss on a diesel. As Silverbullet says, K&N do an enclosed version you can connect to the snorkel with a bit of flexible ducting like this http://www.autosiliconehoses.com/silico ... tings.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.silverbullet wrote:Use an Apollo filter (enclosed cone) and connect to the snorkel to feed the engine cold air and keep it quiet.

Furthermore, engines like to breathe cool ambient air, not hot engine bay air!

Especially diesels! Ever noticed how much better your diesel performs in the cool of morning compared to late afternoon on a warm day?
