cruising / top speed
Having been on my first trip in my camper i was surprised and quite pleased with it ability to keep up with traffic on motorways and A roads .So i was wondering what the different engine /models cruised at ? mine is a 1.6td westy poptop and sat happily at 70/75 mph and even hit the heady height downhill of 85mph while using just over half a tank of diesel and covering 275 miles
Re: cruising / top speed
I think you're showing off! ... we're fully loaded with 3k on the tach doing around 60mph tucked in behind the slow lorries. It's a sweet spot and fast enough to enjoy the view.

Re: cruising / top speed
I normally cruise at around 60. It doesn't suck the diesel to much, keeps up with a lot of traffic and is a nice relaxed drive.
Diesels aren't meant for speed

I wouldn't push a JX motor that hard if you want it to last.

Re: cruising / top speed
1.9 DG camper I get about 65-70 on the flat once good and warmed up. In the syncro 2.1 70 is no problem (prop shaft is out).
But seeing as they are both regulated to 50 and 60 respectively by law (panel van and commercial), I tend not to gun it.

As this is a public forum, I think it's not a good idea to confess to either crimes or offences such as speeding. Therefore I assume the speeds you have just publicly admitted to driving were measured in KILOMETERS per hour rather than miles?
I am reminded of a bloke who posted on Youtube a video clip of himself driving fast down a hill into a dip in the road where water had collected into a large puddle right by a bus stop with a lot of people waiting for a bus. The people were of course soaked as he plunged through the large puddle at speed. He may have got away with his despicable act had he not been giving commentary about how he was going to splash the poor people deliberately. As it was, his own evidence given voluntarily in the clip got him convicted of and fined for reckless driving and a ban from driving under the points totting up process. He was traced though his ip address through Youtube and his I.S.P.
Plod is getting a bit too savvy these days for his liking.

Re: cruising / top speed
When on holiday I cruise at 60mph/100kmh, I usually drive at an indicated 70mph which is 63mph satnav. When I need to get out of the way quickly I can do and also I can slow down quickly as well. 2.1DJ on lpg btw

Not on motorways though, you can do 70, unless towing or over 7.5tons

Re: cruising / top speed
70mph is working a jx quite hard ....anything over 75 is pushing it too hard in a westy (heavy)
sounds like you have a really good one though....take care of it.
