15inch ET31 Advice?

Post by crazyhorse »

Hi all, on a recent mot my stock 14 wheels had 2 advisory on the rears. They gave them a month before i need to change them..

I have mercs et31 15 inch steelies bought off a member here years ago. I never could justify spending on 4 new tyres but the time has come to upgrade.

I have had a look here but just want some advice before i fork out around 250 on tyres..

I was thinking 195/80/15?? or even 215/70.15 Will they fit?? Would love the 4 x4 look but hey ho, reading Mike Gs thread has confused me also

I was thinking these...

Stock suspension. 4 speed box.

Any pointers would be much appreciated, esp as I know this has been discussed so so many times..?

I have a set of 4 Michelin Agilis Green X 195/70 R15 C 104/102 load rated A wet Grip.

1.4% taller than the 185/14 stockers so no huge increase in diameter and made speedo less optimistic than standard.

did just over 1000 miles when i changed to A/T tyres.

Make me a sensible offer but collection from Ipswich only at moment.

New tyres are Apollo Altrust+ 215/70 R15 S (109)

Pretty happy, van has lost its cuteness apparently... i reckon it looks ace.

Bit of drama with blackcircles but pretty happy.

Will be selling old stock tyres so post an ad

Are these on the merc 15x6 et31 steels?

Just curious as I know typically a 205 is the max width the tyre industry advise on a 6” rim. I reckon with a tall profile it shouldn’t be an issue.

I’ve got these steels with 205/70/15c. Was tempted to pick up a pair of the 15x6.5 et37 and some 225/70 to try on rear and see how they clear and drive but never found any cheap enough to play with.

ash, yes they are et31 6 inch,  didnt even consider the width..my bad... was too worried about it fitting in the space. Van feels more sturdy on the road. Do feel i could do with a 5th gear now though. Havent been on a long drive yet to see but 1st defo feels even more of a crawler and second like first...

Will be interesting to see how speedo relates and rpm  at 3, before swap it would be around 57...
