Rubbing noise from nearside wheel

Post by TONYT25T25 »

After replacing upper ball joint on nearside front wheel and steering gaiter, took vehicle for test drive and all ok. Replaced wheel trim and secured with plastic ties. Following week took vehicle out for a drive and heard an intermittent noise from the wheel which increased at speed. Raised vehicle on jacks and spun wheel but could not recreate the noise. Took vehicle for a drive again without wheel trims on and all all ok with no noise as before. Process of elimination that the cause was the plastic ties which I had doubled up to extend and to secure wheel trims to wheel, they must have been to big and were rubbing against something. Thought worth mentioning in case others have a similar issue. Have refitted trim without ties. Rgds T

A few years back we had a thread about strange noises and what causes them, it was pretty handy. I once had a horrible loud tapping when i was going down the motorway, turned the radio off, windows up, windows down, still there. Was it the grill pan, something loose, sounds terminal ? It was the aerial vibrating!

You could start another, they get pruned after a bit. We had all the usual suspects...rattling grill, loose louvre windows, wheel nuts in the hub caps, broken springs sat back down with the pig tail rattling, wheel bearings etc
