Finally new wheels!

Post by Campercrazy »

So I’ve been pondering new steel rims or alloys for a while now and I’m leaning towards alloys, I’ve found some I really like but just wanted advice about centre bore!

These are what I’m looking at...

Model: JR3
Diameter: 17"
Width: 7"
Centre Bore: 73.1
Offset/ET: ET35
Colour: Gunmetal
PCD: Custom drilled to your specification. (Will be 5x112)

My main question is will the bore difference be an issue??

The main reason I’m going for 17’s is I’ve got a good set of 17” tyres just lying round doing nothing so I thought I’d save a few quid in the process!

ok tell us what the tyres are

size and load rating and some idea of your t25

Then we will be able to help.

you might need a 5mm spacer on the front with et35 to clear the top arm but depends on the actual wheel (you won't know till you try it on)

Hi,

It’s a 1984 Devon conversion, I’ve done an engine swap to a 1.9 1y (no turbo diesel).

There’s currently no interior so it’s a bare shell with a pop top, I plan I’m putting new units and a 3/4 rock and roll bed in. No plans for a water tank or anything like that!

Tyres I currently have a continental 215/55/17 with a 98 H rating, when I looked it up they should be good for about 700kg per wheel but I’m open to your thoughts!

Thanks!

Andy.

Hi Andy

they sound fine mate

should fit ok with possibility of thin spacer on the front but might be ok.

Tyres are good enough for the weight of you Bus/van

Get some pics up of the wheel your thinking of

Regards
Rick

These were the ones that caught my eye, although there are some more “traditional” or “retro” ones at the same sort of price that look pretty good!

Open to people’s thoughts! (Might regret saying that though)

My only concern would be the weight limit of the wheels, they're obviously designed for a car rather than a 2 tonne van.

Centre bore will be ok as you need a min of 66mm for the front grease caps to clear, whether you can get the centre cap on will be another matter as the cap sticks out a fair bit.

Tyres really should be van rated but many people run car tyres on their vans, myself included at times, but it's not really the right thing to do but I've never heard of anyone being done or claims not being paid out etc so it's down to you.

That was my big worry! Didn’t fancy a crack followed by a forward roll into the nearest hedge at 30mph!

In the end I found a compromise and got some 17” black steel wheels, also bought some longer threaded bolts from Brickwerks for the rear drums, didn’t fancy a wheel overtaking me either and the nuts only just clung to the old bolts!, Not quite the fancy alloys I was aiming for but it looks alright and cost about the same as a used set of Merc wheels :ok
There’s also the added benefit of a slightly higher ground clearance than the old wheels, so when I inevitably break down I’ll have more room to roll round underneath cursing :rollin

Be interested to see a photo - was thinking about this tyre size for a while if/when I need to look at new rubber.
