Hello, please excuse my complete lack of knowledge about wheels, I was wondering how you go about a wider stance with wheels that sit a little bit further out. See the attached pic as an example.

Is it just the width of the wheels you have fitted? Or do you fit spacers on the hub with longer studs?

I really like the look of Penta alloys the sit a little wider than the van body. Any pointers gladly received.

The wheels in the photo's are 7jx15 Penta et11.
To fit those you will have to enlarge the wheel bolt holes
fit longer rear wheel studs and use 5mm wheel spacers
on the front to clear the brake callipers.

Wheel offset and width are the important things.
Avoid spacers if at all possible.

Wheels can stick out the arch 30mm but tyre tread has to be covered by the wheel arch or the plod will be pulling you over.

ah, interesting, so technically a van like the one in the picture would actually be illegal.

Illegal in the UK, yes. This van looks to have a foreign plate.

I have Penta Alloys which are 15" ET23 and have 205/70/15 tyres fitted. This combination fits perfectly with no fouling on brakes or sliding door and no spacers are needed. The studs and nuts need to be replaced though as they are not long enough. Longer ones are readily available and the studs are easy enough to replace if you can get the rear hub nuts undone! They look great ad the tyre lined up pretty well with the wheelarch. My van is lowered by 40mm too. With this combination, you also keep the wheel outer diameter the same so the speedo will remain accurate.

Take a look at willtheyfit.com for an explanation of ET and wheel width, how this can give problems with suspension conponent clashes (on our vans, the top wishbone/top balljoint area is the pinch point with some combinations of rim size and ET potentially causing fatal tyre contact)
