Load rated tyre selection.

Post by what2do »

Currently gave 205 60 R15 on the van but whilst looking for new tyres on various sites, I noticed that a load rating is of 95 is available in this size. What other tyre sizes can I fit onto these rims that will open up a better selection of tyres? Thanks in advance.
Why would the glass be anything other than half full?

235/60x15s are available in 98s and probably better for your gearing than the 205s you have now

Of course you're right but you've overlooked the important fact that I know nowt about wheels/tyres/sizes and didn't want to assume anything. I didn't know that 235 tyres would fit on the same rim as 205 tyres. Marvellous.

I wonder if all alloys are suitable for a van load also?

There in lies another query. Just have to keep my fingers crossed. Shouldn't be a problem as my van is as bare as can be and only weighs 1580 kg.

The tyres and rims need to be able to carry the vehicles max allowed full laden weight.
By law.
No guess work involved.

Depends on the rim width.

205s are the widest you can fit on 6" rims, and you need to go up to 7.5" before you can fit 235s. By 8", you need 215s minimum.

Much appreciated. Suppose I'll have to measure the width of the rims tomorrow and see what options that leaves me with.

Hadn't factored in the max laden weight, at least I know now. Ta.

It depends on the tyre - best to check the manufacturer's data. BFG give a 5.5" rim as the minimum for their A/Ts in a 215/70 R16.

The size'll be marked on the rim itself - probably near the centre bole/wheel nut holes.

Well, what can I say? It's taken me 10 days to whip a wheel off so I could search for a figure. Anyway, the wheel is a 6.5J x 15, if anyone can recommend a size of tyre that will fit and is 'load rated compatible' I'd be very grateful indeed. Ta.
