Will 235/80/16 fit my 16" Syncro?

Post by Winchweight »

The doka needs new boots. I saw the tyres on the modified 14" JK Doka at T3 Busmeet and wondered if they'd fit my 16" without me needing to cut the arches (not going to btw)?

The van is a 2.1 WBX.

No they won't, lots of mods needed at the front with arch trimming and moving to 'relieving' the front jacking point outrigger. I looked into fitting this size, too much work.
215/85/16 will just fit if you have raised the suspension a fair bit, depending on wheels etc

(i miss read a bit.. above comments are for 235/85/16, but there isn't much difference in size..)

To have absolutely no issue with rubbing, it's either 205/80/16 or 225/75/16. 205/80's give you a massive choice and is a cheap size.
I reckon 215/80/16 would fit ok, but it's a tiny increase

Hmm.. Mine has a set of 205s on already, but there's no height info. I'd like a nice set of big knobblies on and I'm running original VW wheels.

Maybe 205/80/16 or 215/80/16 then... Shame. I really liked the 235s....

205-R16 is generally understood as 205/80-R16, so it sounds like you're on pretty much the largest standard size already.

I think you can get Michelin XZL in 205R16 - what more could the heart of man desire?

Wouldn't you consider 15" rims as you need new tyres Shaun? You could add a deeper tyre like a 235/75/15 so you can air down more and get more traction keeping the rim edge further away from rocks and dings. I only wish they did a 14" tyre that had the same rolling radius as the 235/75/15 or 16" versions with the same rolling radius that just have a low profile tyre on a 16" rim really. It can keep a driving experience much more comfortable if you plan on driving lots on corrugated road services in the future for sure.

I hope this helps,

Jed

May I...?
Rear drum not a problem (2.6 SA uses same 10" drum) front disc probably limited to around 280mm vented (later 2.6i spec as per Slobbo's van) but depends on style of wheel fitted.
Defo have to check beforehand.

All valid points chaps.

This is for the doka though, so no plans for long range expeds in that one. Camper already on 215/75/15s, but being a stock 14" I doubt we will go much bigger.

I am looking at the Michelins though, Dave Wedgbury has them and likes them. However 5x £98 plus fitting is a lot of money...

Anyone know of any deals?

my next set ill likely try these as the mpg looks good on them
http://www.camskill.co.uk/m64b0s233p105 ... se%3A_73dB" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
both are around £30 better per tyre
