Last wheel question and its a wheely good last question !

Post by sternal »

By now you all probably think I'm nuts with the amount of questions I'm asking about wheels etc its true like the rest of us I'm completely nuts its okay its what makes life interesting !

So my last question on the matter !

On my steel wheels I have newish 185 van rated tyres, having purchased some carats and from previous posts you can see I'm going to need to replace 2 tyres (other 2 not that far behind) which is an extra expense I wasn't expecting straight away.

Ive read somewhere on here that 185 tyres fit onto Carat alloys am I correct in thinking this ?

If so are there any benefits or drawbacks from doing so ? (local independent will charge £10 per wheel to swop)
Will it look odd ?

I await the flood of helpful replies

Massive thank you to all virtual beer for all

And if you ever get to meet me in person (I've met a few off here) you'll see its true I'm completely sane ! :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rollin :rollin :rollin :rollin :run :run :run :run :run

If I remember correctly (which is highly unlikely) the Carats can be fitted with 205 tyres which look much better.

Carats are 6Jx14, VW Handbook states either 185r14c or 205/70r14 for 6 inch rims.

So answer is yes your 185 tyres can be fitted to the Carat wheels, I'm sure they would look fine.

Yep have 185s on mine. 205s are apparently difficult to find.

Plenty of 205s out there to buy just don't want to spend 250-300 on four tyres and since I have Goodyear tyres on my steels that are fine I may as well use them.

Do the 185s look okay ???

185's, I kinda like them, this is how the van came but I'll probably be putting 16s on with 205/65 next.

Tad gutted to read this thread as passed up some nice carat wheels on eBay as I just had brand new tyres (185 14s) and didn't want to them to go to waste. Think I will look out for more - never occurred to me they might fit! Dur!

On my syncro I have a choice and the road tyres are 205/80/14 on 6 x 14 rims, and on the 2wd 215/60/16 on merc 7.5 x 16 rims. the 2wd used to have 185/80/14 and also 195/80/14 on 6x14 rime same size as carat alloys, and they worked and looked good.
