Buying / Fitting New Wheels on a lowered Camper

Post by VWMAK »

I'm new to this, having recently bought a T25.

Currently it has I believe Audi Sport Wheels (potentially 16/17/18''), look quite ''rude boy''. The Camper was previously lowered. I'm looking to buy VW wheels more (in my view) suited to the Van.

Do I need to buy anything specific as the van has been lowered or does it not matter as chances are the new wheels will be smaller?

Any recommendations and also tyre info would be great.

Anyone know of any good places to buy, or shall I keep trawling through ebay etc

i'd buy 15in secondhand merc steels you'll have a better choice of tires over the vw 14's 195/70/15 gives
close to standard fit ...i just changed to 195/80/15 and makes a big difference to gear ratios .. don't know how this will fareout on a lowered van you dont say how much it's lowered

Thanks for this, I'm not sure how much it has been lowered previous owner didn't know, I'm assuming 45mm.

How does it affect the gear ratio's, that's interesting?

So theoretically should I just be able to buy some new wheels and tyres and put them straight on?

In general, a smaller circumferance will give you slightly more acceleration and 'pulling power', but reduces the speed possible in all gears (including top speed). A large drop will need more gear changes and your fuel economy will most likely drop also, as your wheels need to do more rotations for a given distance.

Larger circumferance is the oppposite - reduces acceleration slightly, but increases the possible speed in any gear.

Just wondering if these wheels on ebay from a T4 would / could be modified to fit my t25 lowered by 45mm at front and 50mm at the rear ???
