Mefro wheels - Tapered/Radius?

Post by dcfb77 »

Anyone know know if Mefro wheels require tapered or radius wheel nuts?

I have what I'm pretty sure were radius ones in there and they're now pretty much tapered to shape after 12 months of use... having to change one of the studs due to damage.

Got them with Mefro's from Syncro services and pretty sure they would have sent the right ones. If anyone could shed some light on this it would be great.

They are ball seat lug nuts but they are a different radius than the stock.

12mm radius rather than Vws 14mm.
We have them if needed.

Thanks for replies. Didnt realise they were different to VW's ones.

Any of these on the webshop the right ones for the Mefro's?: http://www.brickwerks.co.uk/index.php/c ... 22&x=0&y=0

Also, if replacing a standard syncro front wheel stud is this the one I should get: http://www.brickwerks.co.uk/index.php/l ... 4x1-5.html

These have the correct seat and a 19mm head.

We did have some nice zinc ones, much better but our supplier is out of stock so we're stuck with these chrome ones at the minute.
The chrome isn't amazing to be honest.

Thanks. I've ordered the nuts.

Also massive thank you for getting hold of the front wheel studs so quickly. Link for them below if anyone else needs some. Worth checking yours as I've had a few get stripped out within couple of months and they aint easy to get hold of. Think wrong nuts for Mefro's was the main problem for one but the splines on the others were definitely on their way out (i.e. slight movement left/right)

Brickwerks to the rescue of my holidays again!! Mental note: NEVER ever again, leave it to the week before leaving before going over the van again.

Reviving this old post as I have mefro wheels fitted and whilst doing the wheel rotation on my van I noticed the wheel nut seats looked pretty bad:

ImageImageImage

The wheel nuts came with the mefros as a fitting kit when I ordered them so I assumed they are the correct ones. From what I’ve read mefros can be tapered or radius (R12), based on the fact brickwerks sell a tapered and radius mefro fitting kit (the original fitting kit that came with my mefros wasn’t from brickwerks FYI). So if the ones I have are wrong, I’ve either got the wrong radius or they should be tapered. Anyone know how I can tell which I need? I was hoping the stamped numbers on the wheel would give an indication but cant find any info to decipher what they mean.

Yeah sorry not that easy to tell from the photos! I think they were radiused before that groove was scored into them... My best option maybe to buy a single tapered and R12 radius nut from BW to see which one fits best.

I got to the bottom of this in the end, and I thought I'd share incase anyone else encounters the same problem.

Mefro did make a tapered and radius 15" wheel. Below is taken from their catalogue:

My wheels are stamped 43131 105, and if you look at the 'design of stud hole' column, it refers to E16 which is described as a 60 degree tapered seat in the table below. Mefro No. 43130 104 is E12 which is the R12 radius seat.

Cheers,
Scott
