Chrome 'moon' hubcaps - what colour wheels behind?

After having a good look at lots of different T25s at Devon Dub Fest yesterday, new hub-caps have been added to my winter 'to-do' list.

I want to go for the chrome moon hub caps, but in order for them to look good Victor's wheels are going to need to be sprayed - at the moment they're a bit tatty and the moon hub caps only look good with smart wheels behind, IMO - the question is, what colour?

Options are black, white, or possibly blue to match the stripes (although that would be high risk and may look completely naff).

Answers on a postcard please.

Mine are white, but i have chrome tyre surrounds so you don'tImage really see the wheel colour.

Yeh I noticed a few vans with the tyre surrounds yesterday, looks good.

Had a quick google but can't find any - are they easy to find?

I would have said white, that was until I clicked on that JK link. Now I want chrome on mine. So thanks for that, you owe me £59 :lol:

This forum is good at spending your money, isn't it!

Even with those trims you can see a bit of wheel behind, can't you?

I may buy the hubcaps and trims before I do the wheels - might not need doing if the trims are fitted.

Here's mine with black wheels, black hub caps and chrome beauty rings:

I keep toying with the idea of doing the wheels orange (with black caps and chrome rings).

I do like the beauty rings, but had to put some foam strips behind mine to stop vibrations that sounded like a horse was clip-clopping alongside the van.

And, from the opposite direction... Our cheap-nasty-probably-JK chrome hubcaps are now thoroughly and totally brown, after less than 3yrs most of which was in nice hot sunny weather... What colour to paint 'em?

It'll certainly help you do a decent job. If you do 'em on the van, you'll get overspray on the brakes through the holes in the wheels. You could just swap 'em for the spare and do one at a time, but if you've got axle stands, and do 'em in pairs, it'll save you time and hassle. If you can do all four/five at once, even better.

Whether it's worth taking the tyres off is the obvious next question... I'd say it's certainly worth deflating them, so you can mask in the bead more easily.

Yeh, it's mainly the brakes that I'm concerned about.

No axle stands, so they'll need taking off one at a time.

E D I T - Axle stands are as expensive as I expected. Think I might make a purchase.

I would remove them. You'll need to give them a good clean which will be easier off the van. If left on the van you'll have to mask the holes to stop spray going through onto your brakes etc. which will be a pain with the wheel on. It'll also get messy around the bolts.

If you can't get it on stands to do all four at once, do one-at-a-time...

Back in the day I was told to brush the tyre wall with washing up liquid. Paint won't stick to it and it can be hosed off once you're done. Can't remember how effective it was though!

Always useful, if not essential. NEVER get under any car supported by a jack alone...

I like the "ratchet" style ones, where you can just slide the stand under, then lift the upper section to the best height and it'll stay there. Then, when you come to lower, you just jack up a bit, one hand under to flick the release lever, and it's much easier to pull them out again. The ones with a pin are horribly fiddly.

Remember, each pair doesn't need to be rated for the entire weight of the van, because they aren't supporting the entire weight of the van.
