Are my tyres up to the job?

Post by Sir Brixalot »

Evening folks

I'm picking up my new van tomorrow. Its an autosleeper with 185/65 x 15 with 88 load tyres. It felt a bit wallowy in the corners to my old van and I was wondering whether tyres with a higher load rating would make a difference? If so 92 seems to be the highest in that size - is that enough?
thanks

Yep 97 is the minimum tyre rating. But those tyres are to small in diameter anyway. 195/70R15 would be closer

Tyres follow up Empi 5.5 x 15

Post by Sir Brixalot »

Evening! Just making sure before I change these rims which are in good nick and look nice so it'll be a shame to. Is it possible to get a strong enough tire that fits these rims, been looking and can't find any myself but could be looking for the wrong thing!

On my previous post it was suggested that I need 195/70r15. I thought that I would need bigger rims but it seems that these would actually fit my EMPI 5.5x15. Does anyone know whether these would fit - I can get that size quite easily, thanks in advance

Tyres of an incorrect (too low) load rating are dangerous, probably illegal, may have insurance implications & could result in MOT failure.

195s will fit on 5.5" roms, no prob - it's been the standard fit on a few cars I've had.

These are C rated tyres, yes? We'll assume the rims are up to the job...

Empi = wrong offset(too low) for a T25 and NOT weight rated either as they're made from Malaysian cheese!

As Steve has already stated; DO NOT put the empi rims on a T3

Their exhausts are made from the same cheese.

Thanks for the advice, four new 195/70/15 completely transformed the feel of the van and look better IMHO. Kept alloys but got proper weight load tyres. It seems that originally van had 205 on rear and 185 on the front.
