Tyre Size's for a 14" Syncro

Post by Hairyface »

Hi,

I am currently running a 14" Syncro with Audi A4 alloys with a tyre size of 205/55/R16. I now want to change to an All Terrain Tyre and was hoping to fit a Yokohama Geolander A/T-S at size 215/ 70/R16.

Will this cause any problems to the handling etc of the van?

Cheers

You're currently running tyres that are much smaller overall than the standard 14" ones, the new size you are proposing is very close to the popular 215 75 15 so I would think you'll be ok. The rims obviously fit already, the only possible snag would be the added width causing them to foul on the inside, as far as I can see. The only real way is a trial fit I think
What a long strange trip it's been

Thanks for the reply. I have been worried that the larger size may foul the bodywork but from review of an online tyre size calculator it would seem that the 215/70 is only 50mm bigger than what I am currently running.

I have seen yokohama's at 205/65/R16 however they are only rated at 95 (690kg per tyre) so don't think they are suitable. Will email Camskill in the morning to see if they have any A/T tyres at 205/65 R16 rated at 98 or above.

As you say, best to do a test fit first.

Thanks

dave, if it helps, i have just bought some falken a/t tyres from camskill, 215/70/16 99 rating on merc steels et31 fitted to a standard height 2wd multivan and they fit ok, better than the 215/75/16s that were previously fitted, £80.00 each delivered, cheers baldy

Baldy,

Cheers for the photos. What sort of clearance are you getting between tip of tyre and bodywork.

dave, 2wd multivan on standard, & probably original springs and shocks, approximately 60mm on front top of tyre to bottom of wheel arch, rear 70mm, although with a syncro i'm sure you would have more clearance, as will i, i hope, when i fit new springs and shocks, and maybe a spacer to raise it a little( i could be the first member of the syncronots  )
cheers baldy. also clearance on body work for fronts is (front 35mm, rear 45mm), and rears(front(to trailing arm)25mm
rear 35mm) hope that makes some sense :?
