185R14 or 195R14 on Carat 14's

Post by printmonkey »

Morning all

I've been trying to track down some 205/70/14's since last week and it's clearly not going to happen.

Is anyone running a 185 or 195 R14 on Carat alloys, seems like the only option to me now and I wondered if anybody has had problems.

Cheers

They're available at all the above(and more) so any decent local tyre centre should be able to get them for you.

I tried 3 tyre centres and they all said they couldn't get them, probably didn't want to use anyone other than their suppliers.

Time to find an independent.

True....205/70 R14's at the correct rating (97 & over) are becoming more difficult to find but they are still out there and the Nexen brand seems to be more readily available than most.

Found these Nankang's on ebay....£60.00 each posted.

Nexen's ordered from tyremen.com tonight and fitted next Saturday. Can't wait to get out in the van. The spare is totally f****d and we only just made it back to London in the jubilee weekend rain before I had a few twitchy bum moments under braking...

Not really...the 4 examples that I posted(including the one especially for you Martin. )took me all of 2 minutes to find.

Anyway...glad you got sorted printmonkey but did you order them online because nobody local was willing to help you?

Our local fitter couldn't do the Saturday I had free and recommended another, I called them and they wanted me to order through the web and select them as the fitter!

They must be trying to keep their orders with suppliers to a minimum.

Thanks for the links though it was really helpful.

At least they were willing to fit them even though you ordered through someone else.
My local tyre fitter would break out in tears if I asked him if I could do that.

Agreed....not difficult to find on the net but locally is a different matter and where as only 3 - 4 years ago businesses like Camskill were stocking 7 - 8 different makes and listing another 6 - 7, they are now down to offering just two brands with the necessary rating.
Perhaps I should have said...becoming more difficult to 'obtain' lol.

New tyres all round this morning, a much smoother ride around the north circular on the way home. So that was money well spent.
