Front Legs for Rock and Roll Bed

Post by Piratepete »

Hi Guys
My van has the Holdsworth Villa 3 conversion with a standard rock and roll bed.
It's always bothered me that when the bed is erected the front 6oomm of the bed is unsupported and that any weight on the front, like two bodies sitting on it, has to be carried by the rock and roll hinges. IMHO these are not really strong enough - the force being carried by two riveted pins on the hinges.
So I have fitted two stainless steel folding shelf brackets. They're great! :)
Bought off Amazon - make THETHO 335mm x 175mm - £6.99
353mm (14") is exactly the length required to support the bed. I've secured these to the seat baseboard with cs bolts and nuts.
They lock into position when open. When closed, I keep them up with a brass rt angle cup hook.

Mine was the same ie front edge unsupported. I use 2 short lengths of broom handle, stained and polished off course, with rubber ferrules on bottom end. Top end, underside of bed, they fit into metal spigot. They live during the day in an adjacent cupboard.
PS. Just remembered. Originally there was a vertical flap on sliding door side of bed box. This used to hinge [open] out to support the bed.
When the lpg tank was added, into bed/seat box. the front of the bed box had to come forward so flap had to go.
