Karmann Gipsy
Hello, I've seen a Gipsy advertised and wondered if anyone has any advice on what pit falls to look for? I love my camper, but hubby has recently said he doesn't like sleeping in it as it's too small
I don't want a modern camper and wondered if the Gipsy was worth looking at?
Thanks in advance

basically everything , they rot in the steel they rot in the wood and aluminium body, there are very few people who will or can do the woodwork, check for damp and rot , check the walls and roof for flexing , engine gearbox etc are cheap to fix in comparison

If you need more room there was a great lt28 for sale earlier this year near us (Cheshire East) for offers around £8,000. It doesn’t have a camping interior though, just the rear seat.

Re: Karmann Gipsy
I think you’re being a bit unfair here. Yes they are prone to leaks and when they leak the problem is that the moisture gets between the inner and outer skin. Like most other 1970’s/80’s caravan or motor home they’re constructed around a timber frame and timber doesn’t like being damp for any length of time, so it rots!
Any classic motorhome from that era will need work on its frame. Most for sale will either have been re-framed or need to be and that should be reflected in the asking price.
The benefit (in my opinion) is that you have the advantage of our classic T25 running gear and body but with much more internal room. Ok, the looks are a ‘marmite’ thing but then again are any motorhomes really great to look at?
Be prepared for a very slow pace of life though! If you think that progress in a standard T25 camper is a bit relaxed then just think what an extra few 100kgs and a fair bit more bulk and wind resistance will do for performance.

Or an enclosed awning which most campsites regard as part of the vehicle so only charged as one unit.
