If you open our cooker lid you can't open the louvered windows. Excellent! So, the question is, can you dismantle a louvered window and put it back together so that the opening handles are on the ends of the window (by swapping the left hand one for the right hand one). Anyone done this?

I have just looked at mine and the both levers are on either end as described by your idea, so maybe that's how they should be, in which case you maybe able to swop as you mentioned.  Looking on ebay it maybe a solid unit so unsure if they can be have a look at this link.

I would pop a handle off and have a look - it looks as though it will be just a simple lever to me. ( Of course you will have holes to fill in the middle afterwards)

I took the unit out a few months ago to attack the rust, sharp edges fought back but fingers are more or less healed now. 

I should have taken notice of what I was looking at, I'm sort of thinking that it all undoes and can be re-assembled in a different order by swapping the two windows over. 

Just wondered if anyone else had tried before I start...

Ah well, I've had a good look and it won't work out. The vertical alloy mouldings which have the glass holders on them include the flange that makes the unit's edge and if I move the central ones out to the ends they won't be long enough.

In principle it is quite cleverly done but mine is not so clever...or was done by the apprentice...
