Fridge on Gas

I'm going to have another crack at getting it working on gas. It works fine on hook up and on 12v. It works on level ground or is the van is leaning to the left( front on) but any lean to the right, it stops working.

I've cleaned out the burner and jet with air and it sparks fine and it ignites quickly burns blue on all three settings.  I've noticed that the spark isn't directly above the burner - is that how it should be?  Also the wire attached to the baffle doesn't hook over the tube rather it ends in a loop that sits in the tube.  Does anyone know the correct measurements for the baffle so I can cross check? I found some measurements on here but not for the rm212

E D I T. The wire and baffle I have are 34cm, the baffle is 10cm. It ends about 4" from the burner, I think it should be 3". Wonder if I have the wromg baffle.

I've hung the baffle on a longer piece of wire with leaves it 3" above the burner. What was weird it that the ice box had chilled when I'd lent the fridge right over to remove the jet. It wasn't on 12v so the residual heat must have cooled it. It has to be a smalll problem that I just need to track down

I'm a bit obsessive about the van. I like everything to be 100%. And I like my sadwiches cool..every time.

Another E D I T as I cant reply for some reason:  Two hours later 31c outside and I have ice in the freezer compartment.  I'm in danger of having a propely working fridge for the first time in 9 years.  Two hours later and it's warm again What the blithering heck????

It's designed to work on the level. Running it on a slope in any direction is a bit of a gamble, some you win, some you lose.

That wire thingy you refer to, has it got the small metal swirly thing like an Archimedes' screw hanging off the bottom? Mine hangs off a cross piece that sits on top of the exhaust tube before the angled piece on top that heads to the flue. No idea re the actual measurement but its most of the way down the tube.

Frankly if the spark ignites the gas reliably I wouldn't fiddle with it, don't fix what ain't broke etc

Thanks. I had seen this but cant see the rm212, if it's the same as the RM 24 mines right,m I did set it 3" from the flame whereas it should have been bottom of the flue. What baffles me is that it the fridge now works for a few hours then stops, even though ithe fridge hasnt moved. I've been messing around with this every summer for years. I think it has to be a blockage. Going get gung-ho on it tomorrow. See if I can free it up

Mine was a bit fussy on gas so a few days back I took it out turned it upside down for a day then turned it back over and put it back in after blowing out the burner. turned it back on yesterday and works on gas now as well.

I watched a youtube that the liquid turns to jelly so it needs a bit of moving about.

Thanks. I've been doing that for a few days and can hear the liquid running. Managed to break a hinge by being too enthusiastic.

Guess you will have to wait and see if the new owners join and update on the fridge issues ....

The 3-way fridges have 3 elements that get hot. if they are all getting hot it's a turn upside down issue (although I would do that anyway if you have had it out)

If the flame is not blue or not staying lit then it is usually a cleaning of the flame assembly and a bit of sandpaper on the igniter, although I needed to run a new pipe to the gas bottle and renew a T.

Removing and re-installing is pretty easy but you need to be confident in disconnecting the gas and electric.

I let them know the fridge would need replacing before they bought the van. They were thinking of removing it a and putting in  coolbox. If I'd kept it I'd have fitted a solar panel and gone for a modern fridge. I had tried the upside down trick over 5 days about three years ago and it didn't work then or more recently when I tried again. Did manage to improve the blue flame but that's it I had  leak detector spray to make sure the gas pipes wre properly sealed

It is comical to read of people that have a fridge that works on 12v or 230v but doesn't on gas then take it out and turn it upside down. They obviously don't know why they are doing it.

Yep, always makes me chuckle that ....

likewise I always stifle a snigger when people decide to take a perfectly good 3 way out and fit a cool box .
