Hi,
Have a hi top, looking at the best way of attaching an awning...
I know the normal awning rail channel is the best way, but this would mean fixing the rail to the side of the fibreglass hi top ..
Has anyone done this?
Is the sidewalk of the roof strong enough to take this?
I would attach with sikaflex, rather than compromising the roof.
The wall thickness of the roof is pretty thin, so my main concern is the structural integrity!
Thanks
Lee

Re: Hi Top Awning Rail
You don’t give much detail, what hi top , what awning ?
I have a Fiamma Autobox on the side of my high top , bolted through with spacer plates on the inside , but it’s heavy in its own right , never mind when the wind is blowing into its sail . My leisuredrive hitop is easily strong enough with the spreader plates on the inside .
If you are going to put a rail on the hitop , you will need to at least screw it on , unless it’s just to hold the weather flap for a light drive away ......

Hi
It’s a leisuredrive hi top.
Would be a porch size awning, not a 6 berth tent size!

Re: Hi Top Awning Rail
I've got an awning rail attached to my EMC hightop, it was already fitted when I bought the van. It works well and is set at a good height, I've used it a lot and never had a problem with it. I've got two awnings and a sun canopy, all of which slide on. I'd need to check but pretty sure that its attached with screws into one of the wooden batons inside.
