I now have a much smaller mains in line connector haning loose on a cable behind the number plate flap. you don't have to use the huge blue three pin type to connect at the van but it should be IP rated to 44 as a minimum.

Mine is at the rear, on the panel between the oil filler flap and light cluster,
Looks OK plus leaves the van side clean..
