How to attach a dash tidy?

Post by Emma&Al »

Just bought a dash tidy from someone on eBay. How do I fix it down?

Thanks, Emma

Pretty flimsy things aren't they!

I stuffed mine full with adhesive backed insulation foam (I had spare from doing the van) to give it a bit of support.

To fix it on I drilled larger holes in the tall bit at the front so I could get a screwdriver bit in to put shorter self tapping screws through the wood bit and into the dash. I used self tappers on the other side but just nipped them up.

Thanks Jim! So suprised at how flimsy they are! I was expecting something really quite sturdy...

I've got a sturdy one :D

Mine is actually designed for a LHD drive van, but in practice it works out better (for the way I use it). I fixed it with double sided tape, but that might not apply to the flimsy ones.

They are not all flimsy, the German style ones with the fold down table are usually the best quality ones and can be really useful.

That's the one I have (LHD version, but fine for RHD too)

Have you got any pictures of it fitted? I am interested to see how this would work on a right hand drive van. I am guessing the table could actually work better being in the middle so it can be used both sides.

Attached ours with v strong double sided sticky pads so we didn't have to drill any more holes into the dash.

I have the flimsy one (found in a scrapyard years ago) and us just fixed down with 2 self tappers through washers in top right/bottom left "pockets"...just stop tightening as soon as its tight. Keep meaning to reinforce it from below, but 6 years later its still going strong

I filled the rear of mine with expanded foam. It's solid as a rock with no rattles.
