Mattress advice needed after an uncomfortable weekend....

Hello everyone,

I need some advice on a comfortable mattress to go in the pop top of my Autosleeper Trooper.

I am trying to find something super comfortable but that is not too bulky, packing down to a smaller size would be essential.

There is not much room in the pop top of a Trooper so it cant be too deep either.....

Have you tried a mattress topper? Have a look at what Ikea has to offer.

You can try them out in some bed shops inc. Ikea - take the camper there and ask them if you can take the topper to the van.

We just got back from two weeks touring Brittany. The foam on my rock and roll bed is too firm and gave a hard sleep. We bought a mattress topper from a cheapie shop in Trowbridge for about £30. It has revolutionised the bed and we had a comfortable nights sleep every night we were away. It rolls up behind the back rest when we are in drive mode.

We're travelling with kids so we apparently 'need' to carry as much kit as a well equipped army, hence we use self inflating matresses as they take up so little space when deflated.

I doubt they'll be as comfy as those futons but we sleep soundly enough on them.

Medium density closed cell foam. Got it recommended by a guy who builds expedition trucks in Australia. We bought some for our van and OMG it's amazing. I sleep better on that than on my Hypnos mattress at home. Firm and soft, waterproof/moisture resistant and relatively easy to compress if needs be. Can't even imagine sleeping on blow up mattress for 6 weeks at a time when we go holiday in the van.

These guys can get it in if badger them enough to call their supplier to check if they've got it. May deliver if you ask nicely.

I'm using 8cm thick one as was restricted by the existing covers we had.

Oh so you have had your seat pads done with it & then refitted the covers, I thought you meant a mattress topper type thing. Thanks anyway.
Did the guy in Australia tell you it was not flame retardant or did you have to have it treated.

Wasnt bothered about it being flame retardant. Was more concerned about it being waterproof....Figured it there was a fire in the van I'd be out in a shot anyway and the mattress would be the last thing I'd worry about with so many flammable items in the van already..
I fitted an Atom smoke detector http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fireangel-Atom- ... B007ATHM1Y instead.

I'm sure a thin layer of the stuff on top of what you have would make a difference too.

the topper in memory foam would be my choice. The thickest you can get away with leaving it up there with the top down.
