When do you put yours away for the winter?

Post by sciroccotune »

Hi all, hope all are well:)

I will be putting my van away for the winter at the end of October, mostly because that when the tax runs out so it makes sense to do it then.

One more trip to Kielder this weekend and that's that for another year :)

If you put your vehicle away, how do you get to work?

Can't imagine anything worse than leaving your pride and joy abandoned for 6 months of the year. Imagine putting your wife/partner away for 6 months every year....oh wait...maybe that is the way forward

Agreed keep using it all winter, the cost of the tax is offset against all the extra maintenance in the spring.
If it's outside then you would be mad not to drive it regularly.

Same here really, I have a work vehicle but no personal use so my van is my only other car.

Besides that we go camping every month of the year generally apart from Dec and Jan so need it on the road.

Very interesting guys, glad to see that you all use your vans to the fullest :) I'm generally very busy in the last few month of the year so no real prospects of camping and I'm lucky enough to have access to dry storage. I still get her out on dry days and do a few checks :). One day I would like to have a heated garage and more time to use her all year!

You don't have to camp to use it.
We usually just use the van at weekends to go out to the new forrest for walks but we often park up when its cold and have some lunch or a brew and enjoy the winter sun.
We use it because it's fun and better than just sitting there, the tax is nothing in the grand scheme of t25 moneypitness :D

Now that mine is back on the road, she's staying there all the time!

Reluctantly took mine off the road in September when the insurance was due, as I've just spent too much on it (and enjoying using it) this year and now the cupboard is bare :(

Its always been the intention to run it and camp in it all year round, but the bright side is I have it in a friends warehouse to tackle some of the long list of preventative maintenance that I have planned.

I don't put mine away for winter. I keep it in storage all year round, it comes out in summer as much as possible for camping weekends and surf trips. Winter it comes out for family days out when the weather is nice and for surfing.

Mine was only bought in June, but there's no way it's going off the road. I may spare it the worst of the weather but then again, maybe not.

We will be moving house soon, and the camper will become a van for my trips to the DIY stores, antiques markets to furnish the new place, and for towing trailers of garden waste away. It'll also be the perfect way of exploring our new area, being out and about in Winter but with warmth and shelter always nearby.

My wife and I have a car each but I still wouldn't be able to be van-less all Winter. I am going to buy a jet-wash, though...

Ours is ready to go all year round, but I do try to avoid using it when I know there has been salt on the roads. Bri
