We recently had this dilemma. Went for "in" in the end. It did occur to me, that if the material is not too heavy/thick it would not be hard to double it up so the pattern is on both sides.

We ended up paying £79 to an ebay curtain maker. The first lot we got were so heavy, triple hemmed and used a heavy curtain tape, that they would not "bunch up" when opened and so would actually only open about 1/3 rd of the way  The annoying thing was I had spoken to her about this very concern and she had assured me it would be fine. When I told her of the problem she at least offered to take them back (at my expence) and we selected another, much much thinner material from her range and she made some up with that using just a simple hem. They work. Turned out darn expensive though for what is basically just a few rectangles of flowery linen with a simple hem around each side.

If I had a sewing machine I could have done it myself  Of course a couple of days later a mate said "Oh, you could have borrowed our sewing machine"

Mine face out but are now very faded after a few years, especially the front ones where there's no window tint. For this reason I'd have them facing in if I ever get around to replacing them.

Agreed. Plus, if you're going to leave them in the van all the time, you'll probably have them open, i.e. bunched up, so the fading will be in stripes. Have the pattern facing in, so you get the benefit rather than everyone else on the campsite.

What do you have at home pattern in or out. I've done the same in the van.

I have double sided curtains in response to this very question. I suspect that outward fading side will fade however so the inside is where my main fabric is

Good points, I hadn't considered fading. All currently face in....except rear window....fabric I've bought is too thick to double side. Ordered fabric from states for less than half price of here including shipping.....thanks everyone!

As part of my refit I'm looking to make new curtains for my van but am struggling to find decent material. It all seems so old fashioned and boring! We do not seem to have many fabric shops left on this part of the country, or is it just me unable to find them! Where about in the states did you source yours? Can you give a link?

In uk try fancy moon , or fabric rehab, they are both online. I bought from fabric.com in states.

Mine are tea themed on the inside and coffee on the outside. Pretty much summed up our camper experience in curtain form. My aunt made them from great fabric she had in her house :)

PS..remember if importing from states there will be some import tax to pay too, but fabric is SO cheap over there it still works out cheaper.
