Eberspacher B3lc- firing up issue

Post by Choppski »

Hi,

After some advice, if anyone can help.

I have a eberspacher b3lc and recently it has a lot of trouble firing up on heat, it turns over fine, I can hear the fuel pumping ticking nicely and feel the beginnings of heat before it cuts out. At first I thought it was voltage drop but at voltage at the unit is still over 11v when it cuts out. I think the safety cut out is 10.5v? A friend thinks it could be the ignition (silver box) unit as it is effectively intermittent issue that reoccurs every so often- I have had this happen before so I replaced the glow plug and that solved it for a few runs, but now the issue is back.

Are ther any other checks, tip I could try?

All the earths and wiring is in good order, as far as I can see.

Just saw the link in wiki about replacing the switches, are these the same for the b3lc?

Voltage is suspiciously low. What is the voltage drop from the battery to heater? Earths clean and sound?
Possibly duff flame sensor.

Ok, I may have tried to start it more than five time without success....how do I reset it if that were the case?
Surely it can't be permanently broken...can it?

I'm pretty sure the cable is 6mm, I'll check at the next opportunity.

Do you have a combitimer for timer and heat control functions?
Is the screen clear of carbon?
Is the filter in the fuel pump clear?

I just have the round dial that turns it on with heat or just the fan.

I'll Check the screen ( I assume you mean the one around the glow plug - can this be removed withe the heater in situ?) and the filter. I have a fuel filter before the pump so it should be clear....but I'll check anyway.

Yes, the glow plug screen you should be able to pull it out by the tab with a pair of pliers once the glow plug is out.The filter in the pump gets gummed up as it is very fine - easy enough to replace.

Do you have recommendations where to buy these bits from?

H bowers in Stoke on Trent seem to be the closest. I did ask them to service it when i bought it a few years ago and they shrugged their shoulders...'won't touch it mate...too old' !

Screen is part No. 20 1707 06 01 00 same as for the B5 model - I don't know who has it on the shelf.Glow plug screen was £33 + vat a couple of years back. They are the most expensive screen! I can only find a service kit listed for the diesel models - I don't know what the difference is between them though. Works out a lot cheaper that way if you can find out from Stuart if they are the same for the B3lc. They can be decoked if they are otherwise intact though.
Parts are available from Melloronlineshop - pump filter http://www.melloronlineshop.co.uk/Vehic ... ilter.html £2.93 +...
Ask Stuart at Mellors - he is very helpful.

D3lc service kit - gasket and screen only £23 at http://dieselheaters4u.com/service-and- ... parts.html They are in Turkey but I have always had good service from them and they stock a lot of parts that are hard to get in the UK.

Next is Butlertechnik but they are more expensive than Mellor or dieselheaters4u

(Dieselheaters4u do a brand new B3LC for £760 so must have parts)
