Rear wash/wipe, central door locks, electric mirrors and aircon retrofits, all at once. With wiring harness repairs into the mix.
What was I thinking?

Dash end just about done, a/c coming along but later SA big mirror wiring uses different colours and plugs, so I'll have to make a new harness for those (it was all in the main body harness on later buses)ImageImageImage

Tailgate insulated. Didnt go right to the edges as its already seam waxed and the condensation has to have somewhere to run out ;)
Remembered to leave clearance around the wiper mechanism too!
Less clang, more "thunk" when it closes :)Image

I am getting tired of threading wiring through the roof rails, but it will be worth it.
Good job the headlining never got fitted!
An upgrade to a GL courtesy light harness and some pre-planned mods gets me two lights in the cab, two in the back and Carat step lights in both B posts.
And CDL wiring for both sliders.

I appear to have lost one of these aircon side cladding brackets :(
Don't suppose anyone has one knocking about?ImageImageImage

Offside slider CDL spliced in using an old tailgate harness, so thats one job finished.
Thought to put a bit of extra foam in the corner, to stop it rattling right next to my ear...ImageImage

Keep ticking the jobs off the list...new pump, plug, hose and filler seal.
Using the clip for the hose definitely makes installation easier ;)Image

I'd been putting this off but the gods were with me today.
Early type tailgate, no holes for the lock motor bracket (which also has to be redrilled for the new Brickwerks T4 motor, 13mm higher up)
Wiring secured and tailgate shuts with a nice thud, no rattles :)Image

Its relentless. Checking every wire that goes in for cracked insulation or breaks (the big mirrors had a few and so did the duplicate CDL wiring) and raiding old harnesses for the correct colour and gauge...it may not be quite OEM but its all VW connectors!
I need to find the mirror controller feed (black/yellow trace) on the relayboard, all I know is that it's fuse 12?
How do I identify the pin for that?
I do have Bentley loaded onto a laptop, but is everything Vanagon the same?

*page 97.184 shows it to be pin G1*

I still have to repair some dubious PO "repairs" to the instrument pack wiring too, I don't remember this particular bit of unpleasantness but hey ho.ImageImage

Nearly forgot to fit the aux heater wiring! Couldn't find anywhere else flat enough to pop the hole through with the Q-max cutter, looks about right so must be about right :)
Its a rhd harness too but I seem to have more than enough to reach the back???
Now to tidy up this mess...ImageImageImage

Your van is slowly getting there and must be one of the most attention to detail builds out there.
I hope after 10 years in the making that you get to drive it soon.

It's going on a bit, thats for sure. Need to grab some machine time to finish the engine internal details and start getting that back together.
I keep finding jobs to do...

A bit of modified fan/rad/aircon condenser trial fitting. No idea where the condenser came from but it was from a T3 that got an R134a upgrade and looks a lot more modern (smaller and more numerous tubes) than the original one on my 1990 SA. Needs the lower brackets remaking, a slab of 2mm thick galv steel blocking off the bottom 4 rows of the coolant rad isnt going to help!

Rad back in. Damn its a hefty thing. Not the radiator itself, but the steel shroud and the 450W motor are ridiculously weighty.Image
However, there may be a problem with the winch freespool remote lever placement :(
Dont know how this has happened, it couldn't go anywhere else anyway. I have 55mm to play with between the plastic bush and the rad, in which to fit the u/j...
Image
Good news is that the shaft will point down hill a little, I think that a cutout in the bottom lip of the rad frame will be required.
We'll see tomorrow, if it's not raining.
