There is a short pice that fits between the elbow and the blank pice on a syncro. Oval to round. Clips onto blanking plate and is held onto elbow with a small rivet.
John I was surprised you did not colour code your mirrors when building your syncro.

Thanks, they gave Sandy a bit of gip as there was silicone contamination but turned out really well. The black edge at the moulding line was his idea.
I now need to clean the inside of the mirrors...

That's what I thought.

I re-painted them but in black to match the bumpers and nudge bar, now I've seen them in body colour with the black surround left I'm sold on the idea.

I only noticed. The black surrounds after you mentioned it. I always colour code mine but make the mounting base black like SA factory did.

These were so faded and scratched, paint was the only option.
I am pleased with the result, doesnt look "wrong" to my eyes, the bus is littered with odd bits of black anyway.

I have prepped and etch primed the new metal additions to the towbar, I'll get the chassis paint on that tomorrow.

Every job completed is progress.

Far from ideal working conditions, but it looks a lot happier. Put a whole rattle can of chassis paint on it.Image

Snorkel refitted, the original foam insulated and corrugated plastic hose was salvaged and "bagged" with some PE sleeving & duct tape. It was still a PITA to get back into the D post!
Ended up fitting it to the closing panel with just the tapered piece and not using the elbow as I couldnt cram it all in, the early DG syncro hose must be a fair bit longer but its a good snug fit so no water leak worries there.
New VW handbrake cable fitted and greased up after I snapped the old one... Also took the winch off to see about getting the bracket refinished and tweaking the guide pulley.
Galv would be nice but may have to resort to chassis paint in the current situation.
Finally, made a template for the front fairlead after a little bumper adjustment.

A little micro-detailing on the winch mount today.
I was concerned that resultant forces from the diverter pulley would distort the bracket locally, so a bit of a gusset was required.
Everyone loves a gusset.ImageImage

Replacement steel eccentric pin for the freespool (originals are made from monkey metal...) with a plain shank to attach to extension shaft, which will run out to the lever support boss that was let into the front valence panel :)Image

Its an old "Hookes No1 size" telescopic shaft with ½" socket ends. Owes me nothing and will protect the winch (and possibly driver too) in the event of a big bump.
The UJ's need some sort of weather proofing, not sure what to use unless I can find some suitably sized shaft gaiters.Image

Well here's a job I wont be doing again. Throttle cable conduit had broken under the cab step/foreward wheel arch area, van needed a new 2.1 cable anyway, so it had to come out.
I'm not sure if it should be full length (guess so) but I didnt want a repeat of the frozen cable WOT experience, so a rummage turned up a length of 9mm OD tube (from an Aircooled? I broke one up years ago...) that was more than long enough.
The original conduit is 8mm, but it just possible to get a cone drill to the two brackets under the cab floor (RHD, so much fun!) to open them up and thread the tube through.
A salvaged gaiter from an old cable sort of fits and should help keep the wet out.ImageImage

Transaxle back in (heavier than I remember, it's been a while) and empty engine case bolted up and jacked into place to check the intake mods.
I reckon that's not bad going for a remote build from direct measurements and a bit of guesstimation?ImageImage
