good condition front sub frame for LHD VW 1986 T25 Syncro Joker

Post by syncro4us »

Hi

Can anyone help as I am trying to source a good condition/as new front sub frame ie one that is solid and doesn't need any welding for our 1986 Left hand drive 14 inch syncro.
Our one is showing signs of age with the cross tube rusty in places and an odd hole. This probably could be welded up but I prefer to replace the whole frame where the metal is thinning in places and also as I want to overhaul / renew parts such as rubber mounts, CVJs , Ball joints, rubber inserts etc so might as well replace the sub frame whilst Im at it.
I think the sub frames were the same for LHD and RHD 14 inch Syncros

Anyone breaking a Syncro in the UK or has or can get a sub frame  let me know.

from what im seeing on the vans im scrapping then that is going to be the next unicorn part! seems that they´re all getting very thin on the rear diff mounts and pretty much all of them have a hole behind the rear lower arm mount, so id like to keep that one for myself, i´ve got 10 or so on the shelf that i´ll be trying at some point to repair and get back out there but i´m a bit busy at the moment hanging of the side of wind turbines.

Thanks all
I eventually got one from Aidan
turns out it was a later one without the lugs to take the spare wheel pan pivots but I fabricated / forged  them as OEM spec from some 4mm thick plate farm hinges and welded them on.
Took it to the enamellers to be shot blasted along with the control arms I got with it and powder coated in satin black.
Thanks for those who wrote with help

If you want those parts to last then you should try to get them galvanised somewhere before powdercoating. PPC is a reasonably decent looking finish but I wouldn't call it hardwearing, particularly if it's a component that's liable to take potential stone chips.

as the original was just painted and is still reasonable after 34 years with very little welding but would still like to replace it I reckon blasting and powder coating will suffice age wise  but thanks for the reply
