Post by Bluebell1983 »

Hi guys looking in to buying a syncro but think it's missing it's front guard? Are they easy to replace?

Anything else syncro specific that doesn't look correct? Overly rusty?

The van has been sat for 7 years so has no mot but I think it maybe worth a punt

Thanks for any replys

Front bashguard, prop rails and engine/gearbox protection are all missing. Nasty dent in front subframe too, in the middle.

I see a lot of Mr. Pidgeon welding there and a LOT of scaly unpleasantness. Never seen so much rust on a propshaft either, on anything!

Any more info on the syncro in question, other than it being a diesel? That has been stood in a damp envoronment for years, front brakes need work too.

It's missing all the guards.  front, prop and engine.

Not impossible to find.  I had a bit of a wait until a diesel engine guard came along.  Prop bars were for sale on here only a few months ago so they do come up.

Looks crusty under there.  Hard to tell from photos how deep the rust goes.

Stood for 7 years - interesting times ahead

This is the van.

Can you weld?

Yes that is the van.

I can weld

I have no idea of a budget. Would buy it and do it as and when. Would ideally put a westy interior and pop top on it.

Presuming you get the van for £6k
Budget for:
- Undercarriage protection when you can find it £?
- Drivetrain overhaul unless already documented as being rebuilt and serviced (£3000+)
- Body panels and cuts £?
- Westfaila Interior £2000+
- Westfalia roofcut and pop-top £1000+

Is there a better Syncro out there for a £12K+ budget.
I appreciate the project would be gradual mind you to spread the cost and work load.

This is my take on it and the way I look at things.

There's lots of places to look for a Syncro like mobile.de, busman.be, This forum, facebook to mention but a few.

I hope this helps.

I have a spare very nice front pan , but in honesty unless you are very good at mechanical and welding that’s not worth buying , well to be honest even if you are that’s still not worth buying

I think I’d rather sleep ‘under’ the van, than on those! It is an honest advert, you have to give that to him. I assume he’s hidden the number plate so we can’t all have a laugh at the MOT history, Boo.

Get a loan and buy Simon Baxters’ Syncro. It will be a better financial option in the long run and you get to use it straight away.
