upper wish bone bolt

Post by Gordo89 »

Good Afternoon All,

I am struggling to remove the upper wishbone bolt the one side pushed out as it should but the other side will not move what so ever.
i have brought a 14mm hex socket and loosened the bolt (to allow movement) as this would not move i thought after loosening it up it would push straight out but this is still not the case.

Do you have any suggestions on removing the bolt?

Got a rattle gun? The bolt is "only" a close fit in the wishbone bushes and the castor washers (loads of clearance in the subframe) so get it moving and then you'll have to prise/knock it backwards and forwards to scrape the rust off.

I will give it a try does it fully rotate? Mine only moves around 90°

I have a universal joint for the gun but otherwise looks fairly tight

Wobble bar? Otherwise its a drop the subframe job, which may be quicker in the long run.

The upper bolt/ wishbone are attached to the shell, pulling the subframe won’t help

It’s almost certainly stuck on the camber washers , the end with the nut, try and get a lever etc and get the washer off, wd40 etc . Levering behind the washer at the Allen key end will help to , have you removed the ball joint from the strut?

It finally came apart after lots of work and lots of spray. It must of been the build-up of rust as there was a fair amount on this side the other side was clean and pushed straight out. I think what was key was getting the initial movement on the bolt. Once it had moved it was just a case of working it back and forth to loosen it up.

I think the initial movement was from the following
I used a bolt and connector nut to press on the wishbone bolt
A chisel was put between the eccentric washer and wish bone and a few taps with the hammer it must have moved over slightly. allowing me to work the bolt out.

Had to chop the bolt up in the past!
Pain in the a*** when they corrode, make sure you clean to tube out that the bolt sits in and wax the "feck" out of it.

No need. Just grind off spot weld and whack out with a club hammer with wishbone on a good size vice alla Brickwerk video.

Got them out in the end a bit more tricky than the 2wd versions as you cannot see the bush as the upper wishbone is cast. I ended up using a socket on them and knocking them out.

I found a Ball joint splitter for the upper and lower ball joints. Split them straight away.
