Made some progress with my wheel carrier today, had it a few weeks in the van, originally designed for a land rover defender soft top, tried it for size and it’s much to tall and long, so cut the top tube down by 8 inches, chipped the land rover brackets up and mounted one on the body with a single bolt for now, next is to shorten and raise the lower arm mount and work out the spacing needed off the body for the lower mount so the carrier sits vertical.

Also recently got the clocks sorted, Rev counter installed with an rjes rpm converter so the ecu signal now drives the Rev counter, installed eml and glow plug leds Into the centre dash too.

Oh and my diff lock panel came yesterday as well!

Are you planning on making a support plate to go inside the rear quarter to prevent the panel from getting twisted out of shape?

I am indeed, just mocking up for now to make sure I can modify the carrier to how I want it, will then strengthen the hinge brackets and add support plates inside and outside the pillar

Bit more wheel carrier progress today,
Chopped off the bottom leg to shorten and raise it, threaded bar holding hinge in correct position

Hinge plate is modelled on the burley motorsport.one from the usa,

so this is where I’m up to, awaiting some 4mm steel to arrive so I can carry on with the bracket fabrication,

Also got my diff lock panel and replacement control knob too! It’s black not brown, but it’s in one piece so I’m happy,

Nice work.
Would you mind telling me what size and thickness the tube used to construct the wheel carer is?
Just squirrelling information away for future use, I think the bottom bars on my wheel carers are a bit low and hope to modify them someday, long term plans(very long-term :D ).

the wheel carrier was originally designed for a landrover defender 90 pickup/soft top, the tube is 38mm diameter, i chopped 8 inches out of the top tube and then made the bottom tube to suit.

ditto this. Shortly after fitting mine Aidan observed how low ut sits and how it soon obstructs the rear light being seen from any angle other than directly behind and level

I think mine will cover the fog light. That should be it, but untill I can get it fitted and a wheel mounted I won’t really know

Thanks for the prompt reply. Do you have the wall thickness for the tube, please?

Not just me who thinks the bottom bars a bit low then.
I’m also wondering whether they could be fabricated out of a thicker-walled aluminium tube. Everyone seems to shy away from ally, but it works perfectly for scaffolding and carabineers, and could possible half the weight.

At a guess I would say the tube is 5-6mm thick wall, can confirm tomorrow as I have an offcut I can measure
