New side window

Post by Wedgbury »

Just had fitted a new side window as the old one had moss and was drafty.
Worked out that a Front Runner side opening window for a Defender fitted.

Hi Dave.
It looks like you have to be outside to open/close that window? Is that right?

Hi,

you can open & shut it from inside the van but can only lock it from the outside! I'll get David to measure it later but I think it would've gone into the door too (it's on the left side of our van with a right sided sliding door). It does look quite smart (although anything would be an improvement on the old leaky window).

Very nice fit. I am interested in some more information about this old topic if you would so kindly help. I own an 87 T3 in USA and I am looking for a window like this for my middle left hand side. Would you mind providing me the supplier and part number information for the window you used in your fit up? I would like to investigate if the specifications and dimensions of the model you chose would suit my needs?

Below is the front runner link for the USA. Its a well made bit of kit and you have an option of interchangeable glass or metal panel.

https://www.frontrunneroutfitters.com/e ... ide+window" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Only issue is that you have to unlock/lock from the outside.

Hope this helps

Do you have the link to the UK site that you ordered from and or the model number of the window you have? The US site does not have any instances of this window for the T2/T3 that I can find. It might only be offered through the UK/Europe site.

So I found the defender version on my US site. Question for you -- Was there a window already there before you installed this flip-out window, or did you have to cut the hole for it? I have a case where I have an existing window well and I want to make sure the kit would still be compatible with it. I have an already existing recess, and lip for which the seal would affix to, whereas in the case if you had to cut a new hole, the reference plane that you affix the seal to would be flush with the vehicle exterior surface of the vehicle and that would not be the case for me.

Mine was a converted panel van that had a window already cut into it so I had to remove this then cut slightly bigger to get the front runner window to fit.
I am not sure if it would fit in a factory window recess.
Might be best to try an source an elusive factory fit double glazed opening window.
