Big Brakes using Audi discs?

Post by Oilline »

There seem to be several big front brake conversions using ATE57 calipers from an Audi A6, or G60 calipers fron Audi S2 (i think) or even Porsche.
These seem to use a 288mm Audi brake disk.
The bore of the Audi discs is 68mm but the diameter of the Syncro hub is 67mm. Does this cause problem centering the disc on the hub, or is it not enough to make a difference. I am considering boring out my discs to 71mm and making some spacers, although this makes discs non standard and any future discs will need boring out.

For my rear disc conversion i made some stepped spacer rings to centralise the T4 discs is used and the Mercedes SLK alloys i intend to fit.

On the same theme, the Mercedes SLK alloys have a bore size of 66.6mm. How have people managed to get them on to the 67mm front hub without boring out the wheels?

If you buy the Epytec Syncro specific adaptors which were around 120 Euros you get a 3mm spacer which allows the ATE57 calipers and 312mm discs to be used from 98-03 2.5TDI A6 etc. and all bolts up with no issues but you will need 16" non Mefro wheels. I have the CLK's and there is bags of clearance. All the details are on their website.

Its different on the Syncro as they do not need the Epytec hubs as they have separate hubs as standard but with a 67mm diameter to locate the syncro disc.

Ah.. the 288mm kit.. I couldn't find that on there site earlier.. just the 312mm one,.. I don't want 16" rims.. so the 288 is the one I want..

Oh dear.. Porsche calliper's.. don't want those.. cost too much from what I have seen..

As far as I can see on the Epytec site, the 288mm kit with Porsche calipers is the only kit suitable for Syncro models. All the ATE 57 312 mm say not for Syncro. Don't know why ?

I don't mind using the Porsche calipers, they're not silly money for what they are.
I've use them before on other conversions. A good pair can be had for £250. More than A6 calipers I know but they are nice.

Bugger , never saw that. But back to my original question, what about centering the 68mm bore discs on the 67 mm hub ?

I wouldn't worry too much.
The studs will centre it enough.
