need a new alternator for a1.6 jx td  westy cali does anybody no the best website to get one from

Depending on what yours is. Either of these will fit. 
VW Alternator - T3 / Diesel / 90A (brickwerks.co.uk) This will need modifying if fitting to a 65A bracket.

What is up with yours? A lot of the time they just need a new regulator.

its not charging i put a meter on it and the voltage dropped below to 11.2 when it was running it was 12.4before it started after being on a battery charger all night

I would try changing the regulator first.

thanks for that i will take mine off tonight to see if it is the same as brickwerks its a cheaper fix worth a try first

just tried the new regulator and no voltage increase so it must be the alternator also no rev counter which is fed from the alternator it was worth a try

what is the best way to check the  wiring i have multimeter but not a expert with it thanks
