hey all,
feel a bit stupid with this one but I got a new cigarette lighter as mine was cracked and didnt work without me holding the connected gadget into the hole (oh er)
the new lighter that came is similar to what ive taken out and looks like this
how do i get that damn green sleeve off so I can install it? it doesnt appear to have any clips holding it anywhere or anything to pry out to let it slide off.
I am stumped with this!
its probably something really dumb but I can't seem to see it
Cigarette lighter sleeve won't come off?

Is that not a ring light? To show when it’s on?

Iirc The inner rotates and slides out of the outer, which you fit from behind the dash
The green but has clips that hold the inner

It looks to me as if the black bit slides off then the remainder is fitted as one piece .It has little barbs on the green piece to hold it in place. Then the black piece is refitted on the back by reaching behind the dash.

Re: Cigarette lighter sleeve won't come off?
it is a ring light.but it needs to come off to be able to install it in the hole. it can't be installed all as one.
i have tried twisting... does nothing.
the black bit doesn't slide off separately either.
the one i removed, the green ring slides off with the black bit attached so i'd assume this does the same.... but it just doesnt
I am putting usb thingy s in elsewhere stesaw, but I need this power outlet to stay the same.

Re: Cigarette lighter sleeve won't come off?
update - tried so hard and snapped the crappy green bit off lol
time to buy another one!
i only opted for that type as it had the same 3 pin connector as what is already on there, went for the easiest to instll.

Re: Cigarette lighter sleeve won't come off?
So is the black part partially hiding a section of the metal part which needs levering inwards to allow the black and the green parts to slide off together?

Re: Cigarette lighter sleeve won't come off?
It is a bit academic now,
But normally it is as described above.
Metal tangs locate in holes / slots in the plastic sleeve.
Usual idea is to depress the tangs to allow the metal body to be pushed out of the sleeve.
They are a fiddly bugger at the best of times.
Most car cigarette lighters / charge sockets are constructed this way.
A total pain to remove from a dash panel, because you need to get in behind the panel to see and access the tangs and slots
The black bit needs a bit of gentle levering to release it from the green sleeve and then it should slide rearwards over the white connector body. (Or vice versa).
