hot to remove rear bulb connector?

Post by Shinnster »

hey all,
may be a stupid question but how do you get the connector out of the rear bulb holder? ive pulled at it with quite a bit of force and its not moving.
is there a tab of some sort to push in to remove it? i couldn't see one anywhere and didnt want to keep yanking at the wires in-case of ripping them out wrong

I guess you are talking about separating the cluster to get access to the lamps, there is a tab at the end which needs to be pulled inwards, but be careful not to break it.

Once you've peeled back the rubber boot, the connector should wiggle out easily

As said, the rubber boot should be pulled back, carefully as they tend to get quite fragile and tear easily. The plug can be quite firmly attached, so to avoid undue strain on the wires, I'd suggest using a flat blade screwdriver to carefully pry the plug a couple of mm at each end to loosen it.

tried a few times now to remove these connectors, using a screwdriver to try and pry it up.... nothing.
pliers and yanked as hard as i could.... still nothing.
would they be corroded that bad to not budge at all? tried both sides and no movement at all

When I tried to remove mine the plastic connector was stuck as well. Don't try and rag it out by the wires ;).
To get mine off I did what andy said, use a small flat screwdriver on each edge to try and brake the seal and gently pry it out from the ends.

I see what you mean, are the wires removable with I would guess with their bayonet or similar clips, if these were removed (obviously noting the orientation in the holder}, would this release pressure on the other side and give you a better purchase on the holder itself. IE the unit could then be removed from the vehicle and you could put it on a bench, hold the unit in place with a clamp without damaging it then give you a better chance of wiggling it out.

I'd be tempted to squirt a bit of plus gas or brake cleaner around the edges and see if it dissolves the crud.

Was gonna say just blast some wd40 down the wire holes and around the edge then give it a go again.
