The horn on the bus hasn't been working properly since I have had it. Sound is poor and and it quite often doesn't even work when I press it.
Is there is something I should be looking at to fix? Or is there a simple upgrade?
Bear in mind I know absolutely nothing about electrics.

Re: Horn Upgrade/Fix
Twin-tone horns from a later car, fed via a relay makes an excellent upgrade. I use Golf4 horns on both my vans. AFAIK only the Carat had this setup and it uses a #53 relay in position #6. However the connection at the back of the relay plate is at plug 'L' (grey 4-pin,171 971 997) which is rather scarce. So it may be more practical to use a separate relay & holder.

Re: Horn Upgrade/Fix
Dirty contacts at the horn itself is sometimes an issue, the rubber covering has normally worn away leaving the contacts bare and dirty, try giving them a good clean and replace or repair the rubber boots/covers. Also give the horn body a good cleaning.
