Interior lights don't work Help please!

Post by cheekyjen »

My interior lights suddenly don't work. Have changed the bulbs to no avail. I have checked the fuses. The only one that has gone is no 25. Could this be the issue. Any advice would be much appreciated

You really need to give a bit more info , like age of van, what style fuses you have , weather it’s a camper , and if so what conversion ?
if it’s a standard late Caravelle it’s fuse 3 that protects the interior lights, the clock and the radio .

When you say interior lights are you talking about the courtesy lights  that come on when the door opens or the strip lights used for interior lighting when parked up and camping. As MOCKI explained ref fuses, has the clock, radio also stopped working.

It is the interior lights. The light comes on when the door is open. The clock and radio also work. Sorry I'm a bit stupid.

So we are talking about the interior lighting not the door courtesy lights.  These lights are normally fed off a leisure battery so that you can have lighting inside by the bed, cooker overhead etc as in my case.  I am guessing that you have a leisure battery as it is unusual to have these lights connected to the main battery, if you locate the leisure battery you should find a feed of this to the lights or via a zig unit for items like the water pump to your sink etc.

We need to sort some terminology out here, before we get crossed wires (pun  intended )
for the purpose of this exercise please can we make sure we on the same definition of words

interior lights = factory fitted by vw , which when switched to the curtesy position illumination happens when you open the drivers door , and depending on model , other doors , including the tailgate

camping interior lighting =
domestic lighting installed as part of the camping interior , manually independently switched and usually powered by a leisure or secondary  battery

vehicle fuse box = supplied and fitted by vw , lives up under the dash , inside the glovebox on a rhd

domestic fuse box = part of a camping set up , installed when domestic electrics are used in a van , not usually standard , and there will be no standard fuse order

let’s hope we can , with the aid of some pictures , maybe solve this ?
