Aftermarket oil gauge problem

Post by jospanner »

Hi, I have wired up an aftermarket (Eluto, so might as well not have any brand) oil pressure gauge.

It seems to give reasonable values, but that's not the problem.

When the engine is on, it keeps restarting. It'll happily sit there forever giving its little light show with just the ignition switched on, but not the engine. When the engine is on, it will read OK for a few seconds at a time, and then reboot.

My current working theory is that there is too much electrical noise. My meter wasn't giving weird readings on AC or Hertz mode, but without a scope I suppose I can't really tell. Does this seem sensible? I know the alternator I have doesn't have a suppression cap on it.
