Speed Sensor ?

Post by AngeloEvs »

I assume this is a speed sensor, if not what is it?

Someone has removed the wires and has asked me if the "Brown wire goes to the top or bottom terminal" - (pretty sure it doesn't matter but I could be wrong)?

that's a speed sensor, maybe drop Andy at Syncrosport an email re the wiring, it will depend what the sensor is being used for, often on engine conversions like Subaru or TDi which have ECUs expecting the information, if original installation then uses were quite specific
but if you get it back to front what's the worst that can happen ? 50:50 choice

Thanks Aidan. VW usually design connections that must have a correct orientation with features that only allow fitting in a specific way. This seems not to have any of those and is only a two wire set up rather than the more common three.

the original VW one 321 907 344 was just 2 pin, all the aftermarket ones were 3 wire I think
originally it was just used for turning the stereo volume up and down and/or informing cruise control system

From what I have found out, the speed sensor was fitted for cruise control. I managed to find a picture and it appears to be a coil which tally’s with the Bentley Manual description which refers to it as an induction sensor. I don’t think it matters which wire goes to the terminals if it is a coil.
