Ignition light and dashboard lights not working.

Post by philmcC »

This happened after my ignition light started flickering and then went out. Looked at all the bulbs and wiring for the dashboard and ignition switch, no issues. Had a look in the engine bay and found the blue wire to the alternator had come adrift. Cleaned it all up and reattached and bingo everything worked.philmcC

A lot of these vans are quickly approaching 40 years old.

Engine bay heat and vibrations will have a huge effect on the wiring over that time.

The wiring cores become blackened and brittle, whilst any connectors become rusty or covered in dirt, ambient moisture etc.

I have litterally gone through every wire in the van as part of my restoration.
I have used a full bag of 50 female spade connectors already from Brickwerks...

Maybe one day I might get it finished

Ive taken a few images of my engine bay especially showing the wiring which appears to be haphazard with many wires going here and there so if there is an issue and something does come loose I can take a look at them and hopefully spot the problem.
