Fitting a glove box light switch

I have been looking at fitting a light for the glove-box.
No real need, but it is something to do.

The whole concept is silly easy, but I am a little puzzled.
I looked online, and all the guides quote using micro-switches to put the light off when the glove-box is closed.

Why don't people use a basic door pin switch, like they do in loads of cars from the 80s and 90s?

It is mounted low enough to completely clear the underside of the crash bar.
As marked by the faint silver line.

I know standard door pins have short pins / plungers on them, but you can get longer ones that simply need trimming to length.
This one would need trimming down to length.

As long as they do not get rusty, this style of switch is very simple and reliable.

What could be easier than a simple spade connection?

And you cannot say that it is ugly, because it is hidden by the glove box.

Any thoughts?
Oh and for the pedantic...
Yes I will be getting the bracket painted or powder coated. Don't want to encourage early rusting of the exposed steel.

I’m sure top spec van had this , and the switch was on the actual dash where the glove box close to , top right corner , but I might be making this up ...... :lol:

I suspect you may be right.

As it happens, I am "up-speccing" a very basic early delivery van.
I almost think wheels and exhaust were a cost option, it is so basic.
So it is almost a blank canvas.
1983 Tin Top with a poorly DF and 4 speed DT box.
1987 Electrics and a DJ engine.
Maybe one day I might get it finished

The fantastic thing about these vans is everything was available if you wanted it when you bought it new , for a cost 

that Syncro panel van that Simon Baxter ended up with originally had just about every high spec option there was , 
, including , that I know of , twin sliders , PAS, Central locking, big mirrors , Rev counter dash , aux heater , heated rear screen , wash wipe , square head lights even headlight washers , on a panel van 

So to bolt stuff on is pretty easy as long as you have a big full wallet !

I totally agree...
It also helps if you know what is available, and can find the info to fit this stuff correctly and safely.

Seeing as my van has been stripped to the shell (almost).
Now is a good time to prepare stuff for the final build.

Whenever that will happen...
Body work, brakes, suspension and engine rebuild first.
