Help identifying a starter motor

Post by 3cylinders »

I am looking to buy an unused starter motor from a private seller for a late 1.9 DG 78 PS manual petrol engine. The flywheel drive pinion spindle differs from the remanufacturers own website image and those I have seen from many other searches for the same application starter.

Does anyone know if this is the correct part based on the images:

Part for sale - note the shorter pinion teeth and tapered end to the heavier roller clutch

Holger Christiansen UK website images:

CS683 reference is the 0.95 kW version part #113847:

66925378 reference is the 0.8 kW version part #111061 :

I have been in touch with HC-Cargo but got the brush-off as I do not have a business account with them.
Given their response I'm wondering if I should bother buying their products, so if anyone knows of a manufacturer or remanufacturer who supply well-made consistently reliable starters, I'd love to hear of them.
I was looking at HC as they are now owned by Bosch who made the original on my van and Brickwerks are currently out of stock.

I can’t really help with your identification, but I wanted to say, that if I needed to replace a starter I would buy a reduction geared version .
we had all sorts of issues with one of ours ( a 2.1dj running a carb ) and when the starter had to be replaced I fitted this

expensive, but solved the slow starting and high amperage battery draining issues

LRS is a Lucas part number, it is listed as the correct one, just looks like they have used an alternative bendix.

Hi Mocki,
I have looked at those WOSP gear reduction starters and yes, nice but they're about 3 times the price I'd pay for remanufactured standard kit - money which can go on other things I need to replace :)

I'm more surprised at the attitude of HC-Cargo in not even entertaining confirming the part is correct without me having an account.
Maybe it was just a 'gatekeeper' issue.
