KPH speedo failed MOT

They moan about it every year, but this year they failed me even though I have stickers on the outside glass. I know this has been discussed before but I'm looking for some up-to-date info. I haven't been able to source any great stickers yet to add to the speedo face. I an get the numbers but not with clear arrows pointing to the outer dial.  (Must include 50 and 70mph for speed limits), if anyone knows a good source it would be appreciated.  Or if there are any cheap sources of replacement speedos.  Any advice welcome.

That shouldn't be a fail should it?

Mines been in kph for 10 years no problem.

Maybe check the rules yourself, and see if it's just the garage being funny with it.

If I remember from the Gov website speedos must list both MPH and KPH in the UK after a certain year

From 7.8
`If a road test is not necessary, you should only reject a speedometer if it’s clearly not working.`

Nuffing said about units, perhaps you should consider appealling the fail.  Note the form has current mileage box in section 2 asking for miles / kilometers.

Should not fail for that. Can you quote the actual item number listed as the reason for rejection? Or if it's easier the registration number so we can look for ourselves.

Got me worried there, mine is in MPH but sticks now and again and is reluctant to indicate speed initially, especially if I don't use it for a while, although this appears to be more of an issue in the colder months.

Having MPH on the speedo became a mandatory requirement here (NI) in 2013 iirc.  Although we have government run MOT centres rather than private.  My westy had KPH only.  They wouldn’t consider stickers on the Perspex but depending on the inspector some would accept stickers on the speedo face.  A friend has got away with doing it this way.  There was a group buy of overlays on here at the time so I went with one of them.  It took quite a bit of force to get the Speedo needle off which was nerve wracking.  I see brickworks do an overlay, looks the part

I didn't even think the speedo had to be working. How would they test it?

They can test it on the brake rollers to a degree

The speedo has to work, but not the odo.
It's not normally tested during MoT as it's not realistically practical to do so, unless road testing for brake test (tapley meter or similar). Construction & Use regs say it must be in mph&kmh to be certified as UK spec for sale here, but the MoT test is not a C&U compliance inspection, so the kmh requirement compliance is not checked nor enforceable at MoT.

E D I T: it seems the OP is in NI, a fact not revealed in the original post! If so, it's a fail. See NI specific standards here: https://www.infrastructure-ni.gov.uk/si ... ograph.pdf

Had a word with my pet MOT tester this morning and he said it used to be an issue, but it's not on the system anymore or at least it doesn't come up on the system when searched for.

Any MOT testers on here can confirm?
