Re activating speedo and bottom ball joints

Post by Gixerman60 »

After my van had a long sleep - welder had a heart attack, then we had lockdown - I noticed speedo not working. Checked cable, tick, changed routing, making sure not trapped between spare wheel and cradle - it was - tick. Still not working. After much dismantling and bad language, perusal of the internet revealed a post which suggested driving at 50 and slapping instrument binnacle hard. Its one of the few things I've fixed by hitting it. Needed a few repeats, but now fine. Tip. Find empty straight road. Other fixes from the internet, including being able to remove bottom ball joint from hub without a big press proved less reliable.

Bottom ball joint removal without a press dead easy. A big feck off sledgehammer will do. Go to web for details.
I also managed to press in a new lower ball joint with a club hammer and modified cold chisel.
