Worth updating Zig unit?

My van is currently stripped out at the bodyshop so using it as an opportunity to check over the electrics. It has the original CF8 zig unit at the moment. I’ve had it looked at and the advice was along the lines of ‘it’s old and out of date and had a bad reputation, often referred to as the battery boiler’ so best to replace it.

Had a look at a new CF8 and they seem identical in set up - is it fair to assume all the parts and overall performance will be a significant upgrade on the original?

Looking at the spec suggests that there is little difference. Seems very expensive compared to the cost of a decent smart charger and just using your current CF8 as a distribution unit. Having said that, I used my van for accommodation 4 nights a week for several years and never had any leisure battery issues with the CF8 whilst running my lighting, TV and compressor fridge. I have installed a 5Amp smart charger to replace the CF8 in built charger but have not had the opportunity to try it out and see how it compares.

Thanks Angelo. Pretty much my thoughts too. Unless there is a significant difference in the quality of the components seems a lot for a little.
