Instrument cluster ribbon - why is contact 6 bridged to 4?

Post by sonic23 »

Hi there,
My temp gauge has stopped working and on closer inspection it looks like there is a break in the ribbon bridge between pin 6 (yellow/red wire) and pin 4. Just wondeing if anyone knows why this bridge is in place, and why yellow/red didn't go straight to pin 4 on the ribbon (as i'm inclined to do inorder to get it working again)?
cheers
Rich

6 and 4 are linked (post 86 vans with horizontal connecter) and there is no particular reason why they are.
